Oregon has a spawning period between march and June. In Minnesota , Michigan, and Wisconsin the paper mouth spawn between May and June. In Ontario Canada the calico bass spawn between June and August.
The first pole crappie to spawn in any areas will be the ones located in backwater coves and bays. The last last strawberry bass to spawn are the ones located on north facing bays and lake shorelines that warm slowly.
During the actual spawn the female will leave the her eggs the leave he next and the male will guard the next. The male paper mouth will fan the eggs until the fry hatch. The eggs will typically hatch in about one week. The male will remain and guard the fry for about two weeks after the hatch.
