If you have thought about going on a fishing charter, then theres a series of must know tips, that will help you to get the most out of your fishing trip

If you have decided a fishing charter is for you, then there is a good few tips that I can share with you, so you have the best time possible. Lets take a look at how you can get the most from your charter trip, so you have the best time possible out fishing!

Part of my job is to go out on a charter vessel as a deck crew member, and I see hundreds of charters a year in my work. I probably dont need to reiterate that fishing charters are what you make of them, and getting the best means being prepared and informed beforehand! Also, I do go fishing on charters around a dozen times each year, so you could say that fishing is in my veins! I have put together a wealth of little tips and helpful must-knows through my years as a fishing guru and charter operator.

Before the boat leaves the dock, there is some things that its absolutly essential to sus out if your to have the best time you can. Always deal with the skipper, as ‘chinese whispers’ is a killer!

*Departure time and departure location. Marinas are hard to find your way around, and if your late, the skipper might not get to the best spots on time to catch the tides or the change of light.

*Get the skipper to inform you what gear the boat provides and what gear is your responsibility. Tackle on charter boats can be sub standard, so ensure your boat has good quality gear that is well maintained and is suitable for the fish your targeting.

*Make sure you ask what the travel/fishing time split is-although this may vary due to weather. Steaming to the fishing grounds shoudlnt take all day, you want to get there fast and get into the fish!
